The Little Yellow Duck Project

The Little Yellow Duck Project is an international organisation which promotes the donation of blood, stem cells (bone marrow), organs and tissue. It was brought to our attention by one of our Past Presidents, whose grandson was seriously ill and has benefited from stem cell transplants, we are pleased to be able to report he is now well enough to start school.
 
Several Members of Harbourside WI have shown their support of this initiative by knitting Little Yellow Ducks and during September "released" a couple of dozen of these knitted ducks around Portishead and North Somerset. Some of our little yellow ducks have already "escaped" and made their way to Canada and Germany. We also understand friends in Australia are taking up the challenge of making and distributing ducks for this project.
 
Each of the ducks carries a label which invites the finder to go to the project's website to find out more and to hopefully consider donating blood, stem cells, organs or tissue. A form of donation money can't buy.
