President's Christmas Address - December 2021
In 1942 Bing Crosby sang “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas”.
A covering of snow is beautiful and a light fall would be lovely as long as it doesn’t hamper our travels to visit family and friends. Covid has disrupted our abilities to see those we care for, for so long that we now need to be able to travel easily even if we need to wear a festive face mask and be lathered in sanitiser.
In 1973 Wizard released “Oh I wish it could be Christmas every day“. I am not entirely sure about this. I enjoy focusing my attention on this one special birthday. Christmas every day would put a strain on already stretched monetary pounds and I for one would gain too many pounds in weight. In 1973 Slade gave us this toe tapping classic “Merry Christmas everybody “(the future has just begun). I wholeheartedly concur with this simple message but one of the best songs that sends my Christmas message to you all, has the essence of the season, and particularly for this year, is the one released in 1971 by John Lennon/Yoko Ono “So this is Christmas”. Lyrics include “another year is over, a new one just begun, and so this is Christmas, I hope you have fun, the near and the dear one, the old and the young, for the weak and the strong, a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, let’s hope it’s a good one without any fear”. This last year some of us have suffered loss, may be feeling sad or lonely. If you know of anyone who may be experiencing a tough time, please take some time out of your day to make a call or text to let them know you are thinking of them. A small act of kindness can go a long way, a quote I saw “think twice be nice “seems appropriate.
I look forward seeing you all in the coming year.
Keep safe and well everyone.
Julie
