President’s March 2022 Address

Continuing with our Roman theme this year I can advise that this month used to be called ‘Martius’ in the early Roman calendar.

It was originally the first month of the year until January and February were added. The Romans did not like to fight their battles and military campaigns during the winter months preferring instead to take on their enemies in March, a month named after Mars the god of war.

This God was said to love violence, savagery and his fury inspired the troops.

I typed this address before the invasion in Ukraine began so the background to the naming of this month is one I believe we will never forget. Some bad behaviours sadly never change. The 1st of this month is considered to be the first day of Spring in the vernal equinox, the start of new beginnings. ...Let’s hope so. The 1st of March is also known around the world as Zero Discrimination Day. A day to celebrate that everyone should live a life treated with dignity, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, skin colour, height, or weight etc. (courtesy from justfunfacts.com).

Marina WI members enjoy zero discrimination every time we come together.

This month maybe we should consider taking time to PLAN ahead, PREPARE for events, perhaps a Platinum Jubilee celebration, PRUNE our plants and maybe PLANT some seeds or bulbs. Happy March everyone. Warmth is coming....😎☀️
